Arena Clash! Matt’s Ironjaws vs Isaac’s Sepulchral Tomb Guard

In the Second of our Arena Clash reports – Isaacs Death Warband attempts to take on Matt’s Ironjaws!

DEPLOYMENT

the initial roll off goes to Matt with 2 criticals to 1. He opts for a long deployment, completing 3 hexes.

After several rolls for deployment priority, Matt wins 1 – 0 and elects Isaac to place first.

 

Deployment Key

P = Petitioner, SW = Sepulchral warden, H = Harvester C = Champion PoD = Prince of Dust

Hk = Hakka, B = Basha, G = Gurzhag Ironskull Bk = Bonekutta

Ironjaws win priority and go first. 2 – 1

Turn 1 Action Phase

IB: Basha moves towards the champion, then plays the reaction card Kunnin but brutal. He lunges at the champion however both attacks fail to land.

Both players pass in the power phase.

SG: Champion fights back. He also fails to land a single blow. As a reaction, Isaac plays swift evasion and moves the champion back onto objective 3.

Both players pass in the power phase.

IB: Hakka charges into the fray attacking the prince of dust. He lands a critical. Causing one damage!

Both players pass in the power phase.

SG: Sepulchral warden uses his ability to move both petitioners at the back onto objective 4 and advancing forward.

IB: Ironskull decides it’s time to join the boyz. He charges headlong into the Prince of dust. Smashing into him with a Critical and a hammer. The Prince of dust valiantly tries to defend with a Critical but the hammer still smashes in causing 3D and killing the Prince of Dust. Isaac plays Bone Shrapnel as a reaction immediately causing one damage to Ironskull. Ironskull is now inspired. 1 Glory to the Boyz.

Both players pass in the power phase.

SG: The Champion charges into Ironskull. Striking with a Critical. Causing a further 2 damage to Ironskull.

 

BothPlayers pass in the power phase.

 

IB: Discard Hold objective 4 and draw a new objective. Both players pass in the power phase.

SG: Sepulchral warden uses his double move again. Moving the Harvester on objective 4 and the petitioner up behind.

 

Both players pass in the power phase.

End Turn Phase.

Scoring objectives:

Matt and the Ironjaws score No objective cards

Isaac and the Guard score Tactical supremacy 3 – 4 scoring 2 Glory

Upgrades:

No upgrades for the Ironjaws

Isaac spends one glory to upgrade the Champion with Undying. (+1 wound)

Isaac spends one glory to upgrade the champion with Fatal Strike (reaction card with free attack when he dies)

End of Turn 1 and both players draw up to a full hand.

Matts Ironjaws 1 – 2 Isaacs Sepulchral Tomb Guard

 

Turn 2 Action

Matt wins Priority again with 1 Critical to 0

IB: Ironskull immediately attacks the champion, hitting with a critical and causing 3 damage, Matt then plays “Aving a good time”. Matt needs to a roll a Critical or a hammer to attempt another attack, it’s a hammer! Ironskull strikes the Champion again with a Critical and a hammer. Killing the Champion.

As the Champion died this triggered the reaction Fatal Strike, allowing the champion to make one free attack action before been removed. Isaac rolled a Critical for his attack. However, in true Oruk fashion fuelled by the lust for battle, Ironskull rolled a Critical for defence and survives the attack. Matt scores 1 Glory.

Both players pass in the power phase.

SG: The Harvesters charges into the newly vacant spot. Whirling his scythe. He opts to trike Hakka first, but Hakka defends the blow. He then strikes Ironskull but misses with all his attacks. Gork smiles on Ironskull.

Both players pass in the power phase.

IB: Ironskull will attack the harvester. He strikes and does 3 damage and kills the Harvester outright, Scoring 1 Glory. Seeing a gap appear Hakka decides his boss is “leading by example” (Reaction card) and gets a free charge off on the Sepulchral warden. He misses his attacks.

Both players pass in the power phase.

SG: The Warden uses his double move ability to move both petitioners back a space.

Both players pass in the power phase.

IB: Basha charges into the closest petitioner but his attacks miss.

Both players pass in the power phase.

SG: Champion is resurrected from the grave. He is now Inspired.

Both players pass in the power phase

IB: Bonekutta finally wakes up and moves forward.

Both players pass in the power phase

SG: Harvester is resurrected from the grave. He is now inspired.

Both players pass in the power phase

Isaac and the Guard score Stymied for 1 Glory

Isaac spends one glory to upgrade the Warden with Lethal Lunge.

Matts Ironjaws 3 – 3 Isaacs Tomb Guard

Turn 3 Action

Isaac wins Priority with 3 Criticals to 0

SG: Harvester charges into Bonekutta and Ironskull. He swings first at Bonekutta hitting and causing two damage. This inspires Bonekutta. He then lashes his scythe round to strike Ironskull. He strikes a fatal blow to Ironskull and kills him scoring 1 Glory. Isaac plays Great strength on the Warden. Matt plays a combination of cards. GorkaMorkas blessing, Great strength on Hakka and Total Offence on Bonekutta.

IB: Hakka steps up to the challenge and attacks the Warden. Doing 3 Damage. The warden is down to one wound. Both players pass the power phase.

SG: The Warden Charges (backwards!) and performs a lethal lunge attack at Hakka. He lands it with 2 Hammers, Hakka is only able to defend one and goes down to a massive 4 Damage! Isaac Scores 1 Glory and plays Remembered Shield on the Warden.

IB: Bonekutta attacks the Harvester, The Harvester defends!

Both players pass in the power phase

SG: The Warden activates his double move. He brings his minions to defend him. Two petitioners move closer to surround the Warden himself.

IB: Basha swings at the Harvester. Landing a Critical and knocking him back!

SG: The Warden activates his double move.

IB: The last move of the game and currently losing on Glory. Bonekutta makes a charge move towards the harvester. He Strikes the harvester with a Critical, scoring the 1 Glory.

Going into the Final End phase of the game the current score was

Matts Ironjaws 4,

Isaac’s Sepulchral Guard 5

Isaac Scores “more able bodies” for 1 Glory and March of the dead for 2 Glory. Giving him a total score of 8

Matt scored “Denial” scoring 3 Glory and Contained giving him another 3 Glory. Giving him a grand total of 10

A Win for the Ironskull boyz 10 – 8. A great game which was evenly matched until the very death where the Oruks snatched Victory from the (Iron) jaws of defeat. ( I am going to be sick ED!)
